What Happens During Menopause?
Menopause is that time in a woman’s life when her menstrual periods stop and her hormone production takes a steep decline that can result in a major drop in mental, emotional, and physical well-being. In the United States approximately 2 million women go into menopause every year.

Factors Affecting Menopause
New research shows many women are experiencing menopause 2-10 years earlier than usual due to excessive environmental exposure to accumulating levels of chemicals found in cosmetics, hair spray, and plastics such as Bisphenol A (BPA) and Polyethylene terephthalate (PETE), as well as Perfluorochemicals (PFCs) found in non-stick cooking surfaces, and environmental exposure to lead.
Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs), as well as estrogens fed to dairy and beef cows, activate estrogen receptors and cause multiple hormone imbalances that lead to many symptoms of menopause.
It is estimated that 75% of all women going through menopause in the U.S. suffer moderate to severe menopausal symptoms including hot flashes, night sweats, cold chills, sleeplessness, fatigue, lethargy, decreased sex drive, roller-coaster mood swings, anxiety, irritability, depression, tearfulness, apathy, mental fogginess, difficulty concentrating, confusion, memory loss, vaginal dryness, incontinence, weight gain, thinning skin, osteoporosis, and more.
How Does Bioidentical Hormone Therapy Work?
During peri-menopause, a woman’s hormone levels begin to fluctuate and decline and eventually the ovaries stop making hormones entirely. While these changes are completely normal, most women now find themselves experiencing severe symptoms of hormone deficiencies because environmental stressors overwhelm the adrenal glands, preventing them from taking over the hormone production from the ovaries as they normally would.
Bioidentical hormone therapy replaces the hormones no longer made by the body, which leads to the relief of all the typical menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes, mood swings, mental dullness, memory loss, decreased sex drive, weight gain, vaginal dryness and painful intercourse.
Dr. Hansen prescribes a specialized sub-lingual (under the tongue) delivery of just the right combination of bioidentical hormones needed for each patient. Each patient’s prescription is based on their unique symptoms and the level of hormones found in their blood from the comprehensive laboratory testing obtained by Dr. Hansen.
Once your hormone levels are determined, the correct dose of bioidentical hormone replacement can be chosen to match your specific case. Within a few weeks, most women notice that they are feeling like themselves again.
Some patients say bioidentical hormone replacement therapy makes them feel happier, healthier, stronger, clearer, sharper and more alive than they’ve ever felt before.
